Our walnuts have been carefully selected from California in the United States where they have been cultivated since the 19th century. The Central Valley in California gives the walnut trees a perfect, mild climate and a fertile soil. The walnuts are grown in large plantations with many trees - often by family-run farms. It takes some patience because it takes 5-7 years before you can start harvesting walnuts after the trees are planted. The harvest takes place in August where special harvesters shake the trees violently so that the many walnuts fall off the trees and are collected.
The walnut itself is encircled by a hard nutshell, but outside the sides a thick, green skin which is removed before the walnuts are dried. Then the nuts are sold either in the shell or without - as is the case with our walnuts here. Enjoy walnuts as a snack right out of the bag, use them in baked goods or as a topping on salad, such as. the classic waldorf salad.
